Compared to the likes of Erykah Badu, Adele, and Norah Jones, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Myra Flynn has spent the last seven years teaching aspiring musicians how to channel their inner songwriter in New York City and Los Angeles. Now she brings her work to the Flynn, sharing tools for breaking down the structure and process of songwriting. In this eight-day workshop running from 6/5-6/12, 5-6:30pm, students develop a concept for a new individual song and build the skills to make it happen. Later sessions focus on student works-in-progress and group work with feedback geared toward refinement. Myra also sheds light on the business realities of being a musician in 2020 regarding marketing, booking and social media. Note: Although students will be working both lyrically and musically, it is not necessary to either read music or play an instrument. Though if you do play one, bring it!
