The Big Heavy World Record Label
Big Heavy World has been pulling together compilations of Vermont artists since 1996 with the release of Sonic Tonic, the indie-alt-core battle cry of our veteran scene-promoting phalanx. We've plowed lovingly through more than fifteen titles and continue to unite regional musicians within projects that ultimately, we hope, bring recognition to Vermont's deserving music community and maybe make the world a better place in the process. Most Big Heavy World compilations and their release parties have created exposure and fiscal support for worthy humanitarian organizations like Spectrum Youth and Family Services, the Make A Wish Foundation, the Women's Rape Crisis Center, 242 Main, and Viet Nam Assistance for the Handicapped.
The CDs are made possible by the sponsorship of businesses within our community and outside it as well. Both local shops and brands that know Burlington's musicians personally and large corporations as far away as California have leaned into the work of bringing Vermont's music to a wider audience.
Big Heavy World has been blessed to be surrounded by people who recognize that bringing a community together is a beautiful thing and who have supported our work with sweat and generous spirit. We are hardly worthy of experiencing the wealth of friendship to be found among Vermont's musicians and if we're able to pass any of it on to the friends we haven't met yet, we are glad.
Music from Big Heavy World titles has been licensed to MTV's Real World 2001 season; MTV's Fear 2001 season; MTV Road Rules 1999 and 2000 seasons; ESPN for X-Games 2000; Columbia TriStar Television's Dawson's Creek; the internationally syndicated Adrenaline TV; for use during the Corel Bobsleigh World Cup Series, Fox's Blue Torch, and various private and civic film and video productions.
