AMP VT: VT Musicians Work Together
Big Heavy World, Vermont’s volunteer-staffed independent music office, puts much of its effort into creating resources that serve Vermont’s music community. It operates a record label, public listening library, online music shop, cooperative tour van, community radio station, and an online gateway to Vermont-made music at bigheavyworld.com. ‘Big Heavy’ supports Vermont musicians of every skill level and genre — the organization is emphatically inclusive.
AMP VT: The Vermont Alliance of Musicians & Presenters is an invitation for musicians and music presenters across the state to create the next generation of tools and resources that serve Vermont’s music community. As members of AMP VT, Vermont’s musicians and presenters can channel their insight and inspiration to their loudest cheerleader (Big Heavy World!), becoming a force for change of epic proportions. To join the effort, send your info with the form below and buy a fellow VT musician a cup of coffee. It'll only cost you about a dollar to do that, but your input is worth a ton to us and friendships among Vermont's music community are priceless. (By valuing membership at $1 or more, AMP VT technically qualifies as a trade association, opening doors to more resources for Vermont music).
Big Heavy World has spent the past year rebuilding the bigheavyworld.com web site - regenerating online resources like a directory of Vermont’s music industry, access to the historic Vermont music archive, streaming concerts, and more — all mobile responsive and expanding steadily. A tour van sharing program operated by Big Heavy World has had waiting lists three-bands deep. Large collaborative projects have improved the technical foundations of the organization, and the future has a lot of sunshine in the forecast. With its state-wide mission, Even with all its momentum, Big Heavy World can only meet its potential with the help of Vermont’s family of musicians helping steer it.
Input from AMP VT members is sought to guide Big Heavy World’s conversation with arts funders and policy-makers at the state level. Big Heavy World has a long history of interacting with the legislature, Vermont Arts Council, and Agency of Commerce & Community Development. Our interest in providing resources to musicians across the state is widely recognized, but these big agencies need us to provide simple, effective arguments for support in order to build bridges of partnership. Your genius - on any scale - will help us.
AMP VT members will hear first about upcoming Big Heavy World projects and calls-to-artists, and are helping spread the word about some of our statewide resources:
BHW’s Live Music Calendar, a free, standards-based, interoperable events calendar network that empowers every musician, venue and presenter to share their calendar actively with any calendar aggregators and each other.
The VT Music Industry Directory - who’s missing, and are the music businesses in their neighborhoods represented?
And capital campaigns to update and expand our radio station and bring a new tour van into the stable are platforms for AMP VT members to invest creative energy and entrepreneurial instinct.
Vermont-based musicians, join AMP VT to receive advance word of BHW projects and help define our path forward as Vermont’s independent music office. We can’t do it right without you! There is no membership fee; your experience and insight is valuable and you’re generous to share it.
