Make Music Day 2020: Be The World's Smallest Marching Band!
Want to join the world’s smallest marching band? It’s easy! It also has one of the smallest applications:
Do you have a brass or wind instrument?
Are you willing to march* and perform around your neighborhood?
*proper marching form not required
If you answered yes to these questions, then you can join one of Make Music Day’s newest additions: the World’s Smallest Marching Band.
In lieu of large social gatherings, this year’s Make Music Day will explore small performances. The World’s Smallest Marching Band involves musicians touring their neighborhoods while performing marching band staples. Porch sitters become the audience, as listeners can enjoy the show from their stoop, garden, or window.
The spirit of the event comes from “Sousapalooza,” a Make Music Day event from years past in which hundreds of brass, wind, and percussion players came together and sightread the music of The March King by John Philip Sousa.
Although the event calls for wind and brass instruments, Make Music Day is not a day for strict rules. Anyone can start their own tiny marching band!
