Make Music Day 2020: Live Streaming Tips
Make Music VT will be exclusively virtual this year. With this in mind, Make Music Day UK has provided us with some useful tips on streaming.
The videos cover streaming on multiple social media platforms, as well as a few tips on recording audio and framing your camera.
We recommend purchasing an external microphone if you don’t have one already, but for those can’t, you can still record a decent quality stream by following some simple guidelines.
Record as close to your camera as possible. Most built-in computer microphones are located near the camera, and struggle to pick up audio at a distance.
Keep background noise to a minimum. As many have learned recently through online meetings, many people’s homes contain a lot of noise: dishwashers, air conditioning units, passing cars, pets, and other people. Keep this in mind when choosing your location.
If you choose to record outside, and are worried about the wind drowning out your music, try attaching a small pompom, or other fuzzy item, over your computer’s microphone. This will will minimize passing breezes.
Otherwise, find a comfortable spot where you feel best. In the end, your only job is to make music and be happy.
