DJ Profiles: Joel Bertelson
Joel Bertelson, DJ of My Favorite Music, let’s the music he plays speak for himself. Playing the sweet harmonies of names like John Denver, Wham!, Meryl Haggard, and most unique: Celtic Thunder. Dropping names like these, I couldn’t help but wonder what his show must be like. When asked to describe his show in five words, Joel confidently responded with “It’s been a 111 show so far.” A man of few words, his lingo references the likes of a spiritual awakening.
Joel has lived in Vermont his whole life, dividing his time between friends, hobbies, his job, and with Big Heavy World as a DJ. When asked about why he DJs with us, Joel replied, “To give people the music they like.” I suspect there’s more behind this simple man’s answer. What is notable about the contact I’ve had with Joel, is just how relaxed his demeanor is. While interviewing him, his responses were always casual and authentic. When asked what his favorite part of DJing is, he admitted that it was being at the studio with his friend Ross, sitting back as they share their favorite music with others. To Joel, coming to Big Heavy World every Saturday is a sustaining ritual; he loves doing his show by virtue of finding weekly musical leisure that he can share with others.
Take a listen to Joel’s 80’s nostalgia from 1-2pm on Saturdays.
