Jerichovox, Better Things And As We Were At Radio Bean April 15, 2015
Words by Tim Lewis.
I had a great time seeing music last night at Radio Bean. A few weeks ago my neighbor gave me a copy of the album by Jerichovox, since his friend was in the band, I gave it a listen and was favorably impressed and have played a few songs on my radio show. I was psyched when I saw them on the Bean calendar and marked the date. I headed downtown around 9 and was at the Bean just about 9:30. I got in and settled and they started up. They played as a four-piece with a singer/guitar player, singer/bass player, a keyboard/trumpet player and Brian on electronic drums. The music has a nice flow and a happy feel. It seemed every time it changed, it just got nicer. Their songs are smooth and elegant, and most have long instrumental passages or are complete instrumentals. The music had enough movement to keep me interested and happy. About half way through the set a few people from the small audience got up and started dancing and the whole show had a very nice vibe. I’m very glad I went and want to check them out again sometime soon. Up next, some large drums and larger amps were dragged in and Better Things got set up to play. Lots of people filled the small room. With two singer/guitar players, bass and drums, they launched into a melodic high speed punk rock set. The songs had an indie rock feel but were very energetic as they threw themselves at the music. I had a great time but the set was super short, and I was surprised when they said they were done. I’d been meaning to catch them for a while and they were just as good as I’d hoped. Up next there was a slight instrument change then As We Were launched into a hardcore punk set. The singer prowled the floor as both guitar players ripped it up and the bass and drums thundered at full throttle. Their energy was through the roof and a few songs in the slam dancing began. I stayed back a bit, but still caught a couple of blows. Every song was more intense than the previous and they rocked hard until they were about to drop. What a great show everyone!!
