Summary

Gather news, advertisements, or other evidence of newly-produced Vermont-made recordings each week from press and online sources across the state. Find contact information for these artists and make outreach via email and telephone to bring the title into the VT music archive and radio station administered by Big Heavy World. This is a good job for an organized and outgoing personality - it’s low-stress but absolutely crucial to the cultural preservation work accomplished by the organization.

Practical objective: Contribute to expansion of a unique and sizable regional music preservation effort. Establish and maintain comfortable (and pleasant!) relations with Vermont’s musical artists. Facilitate involvement by Vermont artists with Big Heavy World projects and ongoing programs. Create and manage multimedia social media content for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Author promotional and public service announcement scripts for broadcast on our radio station. Set and manage promotional campaigns across media platforms. Report earned exposure.

Essential Duties

  • Investigate, gather, and record information about new Vermont artists/music;  

  • Contact Local artists via email or in person in hopes of getting permission to add their music into the archive and rotation on our radio station;

  • Document and archive new music into Big Heavy Worlds massive database of Vermont made music;

  • Maintain supportive relations with Vermont’s musical artists;

  • Work with the Social Media Coordinator to promote new artists and music events around Burlington;

  • Attend local events as a representative of Big Heavy World; spread the word of Big Heavy’s projects & recruit new volunteers.

All internship positions are unpaid, supervised positions for college credit. Applicants not seeking college credit or who are not accepted into the intern program are encouraged to apply as a volunteer. Interns and volunteers are expected to engage with projects both as part of a team and independently; to show commitment to the BHW ethos by attending crew meetings and pledging to uphold our substance-free policy on the BHW premises; to demonstrate professionalism when representing BHW; and to maintain regular and respectful communication with all collaborators both inside and outside of the BHW team.
