Radio Underwriting for 105.9FM The Radiator

Big Heavy World is currently seeking an intern to help us further the underwriting efforts of our low-power FM and streaming radio station, 105.9FM WOMM-LP The Radiator. This position will allow an intern to play an active role in helping to further establish processes and protocols for community underwriting outreach, as well as put them into practice, helping to generate underwriting funds in support of  the operating costs of The Radiator. 

Interns will:

• Gain a working knowledge of The Radiator, its operations and needs for support

• Help establish processes and protocols for underwriting outreach, including form letters for use in contacting community organizations and businesses, and determine follow-up timelines.

• Use the aforementioned processes and protocols to initiate contact with the Radiator’s previously identified list of potential underwriters

• Work with Radiator General Manager to manage contacts, contracts, and the funds attached. 

• Contribute to The Radiator’s list of target underwriters

Over the course of this internship, you can expect to learn the “behind the scenes” of running a community-based radio station, strengthen skills in formal writing and communication, and establish mutually beneficial relationships with the wider community.

All internship positions are unpaid, supervised positions for college credit. Applicants not seeking college credit or who are not accepted into the intern program are encouraged to apply as a volunteer. Interns and volunteers are expected to engage with projects both as part of a team and independently; to show commitment to the BHW ethos by attending crew meetings and pledging to uphold our substance-free policy on the BHW premises; to demonstrate professionalism when representing BHW; and to maintain regular and respectful communication with all collaborators both inside and outside of the BHW team.
