Ivamae

Ivamae is a singer-songwriter based in the queen city of Burlington, Vermont. Self-described as ambient indie-soul, ivamae pulls together her diverse musical interests to shape a sound that's uniquely her own.

With influences of classic country, folk, and pop through her childhood, ivamae later found an obsession with Soul, R&B, and Hip-hop through her radio show "Baby Makin' Music" on her local college radio station. Her growth and curiousity into more experimental sounds has led her create lush atmospheres at her live performances.

Almost entirely self-taught, ivamae is not afraid of the heaviness that comes with life and love and uses her music to convey a raw vulnerability. With smoldering vocals, don’t be surprised if you find yourself wiping tears from your cheeks and at the same time grooving to the soulful rhythms that ground her songs.

She is currently recording her first full-length album, to be released when she damn well pleases. But expect a couple singles and some buzz before 2018 is through.

John Fusco and the X-Road Riders

Morrisville, Vermont screenwriter, John Fusco, known for Young Guns, Thunderheart, Hidalgo, Forbidden Kingdom, the Netflix Marco Polo series, and the recent Kevin Costner-Woody Harrelson starrer, The Highwaymen, has been a storyteller for the greater part of his life. He’s now returning to songwriting, an integral part of his storytelling arsenal, leading to a masterful dominance of the Hammond B-3 and naturally segueing to his raw, gutsy, bluesy vocals. The mission of Fusco’s new endeavor, John Fusco and the X-Road Riders (say it: “crossroad riders”), is the passing of the passion to the next gen, where he’s squarely aiming the spotlight. Composed of twelve musicians, with the majority under the age of twenty-seven and as young as nineteen, the band will be rolling out the jams at gigs in northern Vermont this summer and into the fall.

Matthew Mercury

Matthew Mercury

When Ezra Oklan (Nicole Atkins, Ambulance Ltd, Dwight & Nicole) began writing songs almost a decade ago, he simply felt a calling to pay homage to the lost art of eighties synth-pop; shining a light on an era of music that he, and many others, had built careers upon, yet had fallen by the wayside in an age of electronic ease.

Over the years, as Oklan tried to pinpoint the location of the intersection where desire meets demand, the faint whisper inside of him that sounds reminiscent of Springsteen accented with pangs of Morrissey slowly gained voice enough to reach the point of persuasion.

It was at that point that Matthew Mercury was born. As new members with storied pasts of their own -- the likes of Steve Hadeka, Christopher Hawthorne, Jeremy Mendicino and Dan Bishop -- joined arms with Ezra, the sound quickly evolved with inspiration borrowed everywhere from Bowie to the Pixies, Joy Division to Television, and Interpol to the Strokes with a little bit of Pulp.

Jesse Taylor

Highly introspective, members of the Jesse Taylor Band pour their hearts into songs like “Someone Get Me A Brown Paper Bag” and “80 Degrees in October”. Originals by Jesse Taylor, lead vocals/rhythm guitar, are brought to life with help from Matt Sicard on drums, Gabby Hall on bass, and Nick Treis on lead guitar. Based in Burlington, the group collaborates to create an energy-filled show, drawing inspiration from long days at the bakery and life with anxiety. Lyrically driven, JTB shares stories of everyday life and deeper quandaries. Taking notes from artists like Courtney Barnett, Regina Spektor, and Liza Anne, Jesse writes songs that mirror their passionate vocals and unapologetic style. JTB enjoys mixing musical influences like indie-rock, soul, and punk. Their biggest fan is a dog, but you would like them too. Can someone get Jesse a brown paper bag?!

Bishop LaVey

Bishop LaVey, A DoomFolk Singer-Songwriter hailing from the growing Montpelier Music scene creates his own twisted brand of folk music. While the guitar stylings are similar to the folk acts of the mid 2000s, his lyricism focuses less on old labor stories and American folklore and more on themes ranging from addiction and off-the-rails personal relationships to the apocalypse and dystopia. His vocal stylings do even more to separate him from the herd with a voice that sounds like a bizarre cross between Tom Waits and Layne Staley.

My work starts with the bass: the deep sounds near to the earth. The sounds that surround you while standing or walking or running or resting. The sounds that shake along your body.

From this root there are other sounds: spectral sounds that are hidden from you or then again revealed, signals traveling along strings and wires and then rippling in the air, stippling shadows of the fundamental bass.
