DJ Profiles: Dakota Gorkum
Dakota has always been immersed in music: beginning in his earlier years when he would listen to whatever music was around him, to the school bus where he jammed out to his favorite classic cassette tapes. As he grew older, Dakota realized music has a fundamental social component that can lead to a shared connection with others. His show, Future Vibes Record Shop, allows him to pursue these connections further and cultivate an inviting, comforting, and dynamic atmosphere for his listeners. He achieves this by merging “old school sounds” with the “new:” featuring well-known, mainstream artists or groups and then turning to, perhaps, local Vermont artists and groups. Given his creative nature, you’ll find Dakota exploring and experimenting with new songs and sounds, on his own and on his show. He enjoys using this one-hour blocked time to speak with guests and friends, explore the creative sides of his identity, and share his love for music with all. Imagine walking into a “super cool record shop” where the music is dynamic and expansive enough to fit the tastes of many; that feeling is what Future Vibes Record Shop successfully embodies.
At his core, Dakota Gorkum is a creator. Residing in Colchester, Vermont, he hopes to pursue a focused career in Industrial Design. Often finding beauty in areas we may disregard, such as clothes or packaging, Dakota assigns a nuanced meaning to such items. Dakota holds a similar multidimensional outlook toward music in that he believes it can manifest across multiple creative platforms, such as in fashion and design. As you tune into the show, it becomes abundantly clear that Dakota’s love for music is contagious.
