Songwriters Song Share Event: Making Your Voice Heard with the Burlington Songwriters
Calling all local songwriters! Do you want to connect with other musicians and share some of your original music? Are you starved for local music in the age of the pandemic? The Burlington Songwriters are hosting a virtual Songwriters Song Share Event on Tuesday, October 13, from 7-10pm. This event, which will be held over Zoom, is an opportunity for you to share your original music, listen to other local musicians, and give and receive constructive criticism. It will be relaxed and fun, and you can expect to stick around for some mingling and catching up after the event.
The Burlington Songwriters describe themselves on their Facebook as a “low-key group of songwriters that enjoy getting together to share our music, listen to others, and offer what help we can.” They have opened this event to songwriters of all levels, and make it clear on their website that all are welcome. The group normally has regular songwriter sharing meetings throughout the year, but the coronavirus has forced them to temporarily move online. This Zoom session is being hosted by Big Heavy World.
The Burlington Songwriters have elected not to publicly post the Zoom link for the event beforehand as it opens the meeting to security risks. However, if you are not part of the group, you can contact them and they will happily share the link with you. You can contact the Burlington Songwriters at (802).899.1139 or burlingtonsongwriters@gmail.com .
The only requirement the group asks of attendees is that they modify the audio settings on Zoom to ensure the clearest audio possible. To attend this meeting, you will need a Zoom account and client. You will also have to change the Zoom settings to “preserve original sound” and turn off any automatic volume adjustments. Not sure what that means? That’s okay, click here for a simple walkthrough tutorial on YouTube.
Jason Baker, a performer with the Burington Songwriters, says, “we have a pretty diverse group of songwriters, composers, lyricists, and musicians, but we are always hoping more people will join us.” He also says that this event is not just for singer-songwriters — he hopes to see local bands joining the Zoom, and hopefully the in-person meetings when it is safe again.
Bring your recently composed songs, songs in progress, lyrics, and other musical ideas for kind and honest feedback and creative suggestions. The Burlington Songwriters can’t wait to hear it!
