Graffiti Artists Tagged to Tag Canvas for Shelburne Art Center

South Burlington, VT July 15th, 2011 – On Saturday, August 27th, from 12-6pm, the Magic Hat Artifactory is getting tagged. The Magic Hat Artifactory Presents: The Second Annual Wall to Canvas is scheduled to go down, featuring live art, tons of DJs, an outdoor beer garden featuring a special Magic Hat cask, free Ben & Jerry’s samples and a blazin’ BBQ. Artists and art-lovers alike aim to raise money and awareness for The Shelburne Art Center.

Wall to Canvas is an urban arts competition featuring 12 artists who know how to please the eye. For 2½ hours, they’ll spray, paint and draw their masterpieces. After their creationary time is up, there will be a silent auction in which the audience will bid on their favorite pieces. Half the money bid will go to The Shelburne Art Center, and the other half will go directly to the artist. Attendees will also be encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice Award, netting the winning artist $300 cash and second- and third-place artists $200 and $100, respectively. All beer and BBQ proceeds will go directly to The Shelburne Art Center.

Live music will be spun all day long by a slew of talented DJs in a one-of-kind DJ Throwdown featuring: DJ GI Joe (Immortal Technique) w. D Pone, DJ A-Dog, DJ Oh J Fresh, Face One, DJ Kango and more! There will also be a live art installation created by Burlington’s own Dux the Balloon Man! Attendees are encouraged to meet at Nectar’s in Burlington to get on the free shuttle leaving every hour on the hour from 1-5pm. After the show, all are welcome at Nectar’s for the official Wall to Canvas after-party, starting at 7pm, during which all the artists from the Wall to Canvas will spray the alley of Nectar’s!

The Shelburne Arts Center: Cultivating Creative Minds

Founded in 1945, The Shelburne Art Center is a non-profit school dedicated to offering classes, workshops, and camps across a range of artistic mediums and forms. For over sixty-five years they have introduced students of all ages to the pleasure of creating in wood, metal, glass, visual, clay, fiber and photo arts. Wall to Canvas brings together this crafty Shelburne staple with Magic Hat’s unique brand of creativity to offer an event that shows appreciation for local urban-style artwork, all to benefit the Art Center’s mission of providing the community a place to learn both contemporary and traditional craft arts.
