The next few weeks are big ones here at Big Heavy, with the Buzz HOMEBREW HIGHSCHOOL BAND PLAY-OFFS, upcoming record releases and many good local shows. Spring is here, and Burlington is exploding. Here comes the heat. Send ice. Oh, and by the way, this marks the beginning of a new era for the BHW Newzrag. Former editor and worst enemy of the bad sandwich Joe Atherton has moved on to bigger and badder things. From now on, the Newzrag will be brought to you by Ethan Covey. Let's get used to each other; it should be loads of fun.

LOCAL MUSIC NEWZ:

WANNA WATCH THE BEST AREA HIGH SCHOOL BANDS BATTLE FOR A CHANCE AT STARDOM? The ADVANCE HOMEBREW LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL BAND SEARCH has narrowed down the competItors to six bands that will play Higher Ground on Monday, May 7. The six bands will play sets that will be judged by a panel of local musical geniuses, including BHW's very own Joe "Surly Critic Boy" Atherton. The winner of the contest will be bombarded by a pile of prizes including a $500 gift certificate to Advance Music, discounts on CD production costs through Big Heavy, a free day of recording at West Digital Studios, aid in getting their band heard far and wide on the 'net by bigheavyworld.com, and free tix to ALL Big Heavy shows this year. The bands that will be battlin' for the prize include: CHEUX (Burlington); BEN PATTON (Bakersfield); PART TIME HEROES (Swanton); TABLE 4:4 (Vergennes); OLD MAN'S FABLE (South Burlington); and SUICIDE SPRING (Charlotte). These are some of the best young bands in the area and they need your support in making their Rock and Roll dreams come true. Doors open at 6pm, it's an all-ages show, costs only three little dollars to get in, and last year's champs WRECKINGHORN will close the show, skankin' the night away! Keep an eye out for the Big Heavy World table, which will be manned by our extremely knowlegable & sexy staff and be stocked full of interesting BHW and local music info.

TAME THE MONSTER!! Believe it or not, (and oh please do), SUFFER THE MASSES, and PRISONER 13 are both offering tickets to the MONSTERFEST festival for cheaper than a case of airplane glue. Check out http://www.geocities.com/suffertm/tix.html or, http://www.angelfire.com/vt/crookedcore/ for more details. Hell, buy two... take yer mom! WE LOVE EVERYONE!!! Big Heavy World would like to send out mountains of thanks to the many people that have helped us out at shows, benefits, with office maintenance, equipment repair, and generally aided in keeping the Big Heavy World turning in the past few weeks. Many thanks to BAD JU JU, HELEN KELLER MUSIC, and CHIN HO! for playing at BHW's Electric Cabaret benefitting the Women's Rape Crisis Center, April 27, and to everyone who came and supported the cause. Awesome acoustic performances were delivered by all to help raise money for an incredible and very important organization. Thanks to Alex "Jeff" Tripp and Damien Thibault for manning the BHW table at the show. Thanks to WRECKING HORN, BLIND LUCK, THE BAZOOKAS, and SKASQUATCH for rocking out at the 242 Main benefit show for Big Heavy on April, 26. And, of course, our sweetest thanks to Joe Atherton and Sarah Leib for making the thing happen. You make this Heavy World go round! Thanks to James Kathary @ Retronics.net for the deal on the new broadcasting machine. Thanks to Jim Tanner and Tri State Wrestling for spinning BHW's Tonic Two and chainsaws.and.children discs at the Rutland show (Fok Yeah!). Wow, quite a list o' thanks, but things here at BHW are going well and we couldn't come close to pulling it all off without the help of those mentioned above, and the many others that give their time and devotion to BHW and the VT music scene. Keep it comin'!!!
