Formed in 2011 in Island Pond, the Constables are a lively roots rock/americana act out of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. With heartfelt originals, honest licks and passionate vocals, they love exploring the fretboard to find fresh takes on old ideas. Influences are wide and varied, drawing on a diverse range of styles from bluegrass to alt rock and hip hop they are proud to play music you won't hear on the radio... until you do!
Dan Keenan, Bass, Vocals
Dan was born in Philadelphia, then raised in Wisconsin, Japan and Vermont. A college band, small business, and marriage came and went. After bouncing around Vermont, New Mexico and Maine, Dan wound up at law school in the middle 2000s. Following his family to the Northeast Kingdom, Dan found work in Island Pond as a real estate lawyer and love in Norton, where he now resides. Dan first fell in love with the standup bass in a middle school orchestra program, but now usually plays a bass guitar.
Ben Matthews, Guitar, Banjo, Vocals
Ben spends his workdays as River Scientist with a focus on removing dams and culverts and increase flood resilience and re-open legacy fish migration routes in critical geographies across the state of Vermont. Ben lives in Danville, Vermont, returning to his college roots in the northeast kingdom after a 10+ year tour planning stream rehabilitation projects across the mountains. He is technically a New Hampshire native, but has called New York, Michigan, Maine, Maryland and West Virginia home. His time in West Virginia made him fall in love with the old-time mountain music and his songwriting and style reflect his passion old folk and banjo music. He loves reimagining these traditional sounds and finding novel ways leverage these old styles into modern genres.
