Oak Honest Records' Derek O’Kanos is a transplant to the Green Mountain State from Connecticut’s Tobacco Valley. His music is authentic and familiar; reminiscent of the singers and seekers who came before him. He occupies his own space bordering the realms of power pop, folk rock, alternative, and blues. Themes of love, struggle, freedom, and magic are presented with sardonic humor as Derek draws influence from: Nick Lowe, John Prine, Ben Harper, Hank Sr., Marcy Playground, Johnny Cash, Ramones, Thin Lizzy, and others.

O'Kanos started his own label, Oak Honest Records, in the uncertainty of 2020. In 2021, he released his first official solo effort, 'On the Sleeve'. This EP was well received and was covered by Seven Days, VPR, and various other radio stations in the greater New England area. Recently, Derek was named as a finalist for best pop artist in Seven Days' Best of VT. His latest effort, 'Spoken Roads', was another 5 track offering released on 9.2.2022.
