We Are Here! —12 June 2019 on Rocket Shop Radio Hour

On Wednesday, June 12, We Are Here! prowled their way into Rocket Shop for an electric evening.We Are Here features Zachary Wright on guitar, Nathan Perron on bass, and Alex Deslauriers on drums, although Green Day fans might mistake them for Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, as these guys filled the room with hair-raising punk energy. And quite fittingly, We Are Here! opened their set with an original song known as “Heart Attack.”

We Are Here!’s inspirational progenitors were on full display, as the group warmed up with classic riffs from bands like Nirvana and Green Day. “It might get loud,” commented Bob the sound engineer, as the band readied themselves. Just before the show began, guitarist and lead vocalist Zachary gave thanks to the band’s fans, saying, “Thank you for knowing what to do— here to see us—where to put your eyes.” We Are Here! are definitely thankful for any viewing eyes (and ears), as the band is still in its infancy. Zachary and Alex have been playing together for nearly two years now, but Nathan Perron only recently made the band a trio. Last November, Zachary went looking for a second guitarist, and, not really knowing where to look, started surfing the internet for a potential third. Zachary had nothing to go with, so he messaged the first person he saw with a guitar in their profile picture, and that person turned out to be Nathan.

Since then, the group has played a surprising amount of shows. We Are Here! have played at  Lyndon Underground and Hard Rock Café in Boston, as well as other small college events around Vermont. These guys are working hard to get an EP out as well, so keep your eyes peeled for a release. Tentatively, the EP is titled Nothing Personal, and will hopefully be recorded and released sometime in the next six months.

The band has multiple original songs in their catalogue, including “Heart Attack,” “Never Saw It Coming,” and “Out the Window.” Zachary describes their song-writing process as a group effort, with everyone putting in their two-cents.

Even though Alex came in wearing a shirt labeled “THANK GOD FOR PUNK ROCK BANDS,” We Are Here! do not want to be labeled as just a punk rock band. These guys are open to anything, although rock is their forte.
