On Wednesday, April 10th, emo-rock/ pop-punk band, Why Nona, joined us on Rocket Shop. The band consists of lead singer and guitar player Sam, bassist Lucas, lead guitar player Matt, and drummer Raj. Why Nona was formed about a year and a half ago by Sam and Raj, who worked at the same guitar shop. Lucas joined shortly after, and Matt is the most recent addition. Sam and Matt bring the indie rock/ emo/ alternative sound to the group, while Raj and Lucas are more metal guys. Sam stated that, “We all grew up loving Blink 182, Yellowcard...Paramore… Sum 41,” the classic pop punk bands from the 90s and early 2000s.

Sam does the songwriting for Why Nona. He often finds himself writing songs when he needs to get something off his chest, and uses songwriting as a form of relief. “This is why” he admits, “most of our songs are pretty sad or pretty emotional.” After he writes song lyrics, he brings it to Raj AKA the “producer, engineer, mixer, master” who “gets super fun with it.” Everyone else then adds their personal touches. The band is very collaborative, especially having the freedom of recording in Raj’s at-home studio, where they can explore new sounds and get experimental.

Why Nona has had a very productive year, coming out with an album and an EP. They also have some new music coming our way, and plan to come out with a new EP in the near future.
