Big Heavy World’s Story Circle!
The USDAC and the Poor People’s Campaign called on creative organizers to put together story circles across the nation to talk about their experiences within their communities.
The People’s State of the Union is a National Action hosted by the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture (USDAC) in partnership with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. The USDAC is not a government organization but rather a “people-powered department” of grassroots organization inciting creativity and social imagination to shape a culture of empathy, equity, and belonging. This year the USDAC decided to partner with the Poor People’s campaign to challenge the narrative that political, economic, and moral crises are the fault of the poor.
In Big Heavy World’s story circle Selvi Ulusan, Ivana Djiya, and Mollie Allen talk about injustices we have experienced (to people and to the environment) as well as times we have seen community come together. The need for community has become more real than ever as the whole world faces a pandemic where we need everyone working together to overcome. We shared our stories with the goal to keep the conversation going.
