The Summit School's 10th Annual Winter Music Festival: Spice on Snow
If you’re of the sort who enjoys the twanging guitars, hand plucked melodies, and nothin’ but three chords and the truth (as our resident Americana expert, Taylor Austin would preach), check out The Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture’s 10th Annual Winter Music Festival: ‘Spice on Snow.’ From January 23 to 26, Montpelier will host forty musicians, thirty events, and fourteen venues. Events include concerts, workshops, jam sessions, sing-alongs, family programs, and a community dinner, all to the tune of Cajun and Old-Time folk.
Musicians come from Louisiana and Southern Appalachia, as well as some New England friends. Notable artists include Molsky’s Mountain Drifters with Grammy-Nominated fiddler Bruce Molsky, and The Old Fashioned Aces from Louisiana with Le Cajun Awards’ best female vocalist, Amelia Briere. Other arists performing include The Moon Shells with Tennessian Matt Downer, Vermont’s own Young Tradition Touring Group, Chaque Fois, Kick em Jenny, Two Cents in the Till, Old Sky, Last Train to Zinkov, Mark Legrand, and Turning Stile. Many of the festival events are free or low cost, with a special focus on family friendly events throughout the day on Saturday.
There will even be a raffle with the chance to win a Gold Tone banjo signed by Macarthur Genius Award and Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens!
Tickets are sold through Seven Days Tickets, and the link can be found on the Summit School’s website.
