On June 21 every year, more than 700 cities celebrate international 'Make Music Day' with free live performances and community gatherings, all across the world. In Vermont there were performances from Bennington to Burlington, with a special event in Burlington connecting the Fletcher Free Library with the Chattanooga Public Library. Musicians at both libraries got to perform with one another on an Internet 2 connection called 'LOLA,' which is short for 'LOw LAtency' — a connection so fast, musicians can perform with one another over it even though they're hundreds of miles apart. Many partners made Make Music Day and the LOLA demonstration possible — at the Fletcher Free Library they included Burlington Telecom and BTV Ignite and musicians Girls Rock VT and Cultural Chemistry. Big Heavy World has partnered with the Fletcher Free Library and Burlington Telecom to demonstrate LOLA a couple times, helping Burlington eventually become a hub for futuristic technology that supports local arts and culture. For more about Make Music Day in Vermont, see Make Music VT. Special thanks to RETN for producing this short video that helps us share the excitement and spread the word about LOLA!

The video will premiere on RETN Channel 16 on Tuesday, August 15th at 9:30 PM. Additional air times will be posted online as they are scheduled. RETN is also distributing this show over the Vermont Media Exchange for statewide cable TV distribution.
