Radio Show 152 Thursday March 31, 2016 9-11PM Eastern US Time 107.1 FM and WBKM.ORG
Words by Tim Lewis.
For tonight’s local music radio show on 107.1FM and WBKM.ORG I had expected to highlight some of the great music that happened last week and highlight some of the great music happening this week, then add in a fun set or two, but this coming week’s and last week’s music filled the two hours very quickly!
Song before: Bernie Is A Punk – Bern Unit
intro
From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. So much great music happened in town last week and there is a ton of great stuff happening this week too. Let’s see how much I can highlight. Last night I went to Radio Bean to see what Caroline O’Connor is up to. She played some really cool songs. Let’s begin tonight with a song from her previous band.
1.) Basalt Anchor – Caroline O’Connor
2.) I Know It’s True – Wide Wail
3.) Highway – Construction Joe
4.) 2,000 – The Pants
I had a good time seeing so many great performers at the Pants music highlight show at Higher Ground last Saturday. They closed the night with 2,000 and had everyone on stage and it was so cool. Also, at the Pants show, Swale was the house band so they did a killer set of Wide Wail songs, and Construction Joe got back together to play a set. I thought I’d play the songs in the previous set to give you an idea of what the night sounded like. OK, now it’s time to play the next song on the Bernie Sanders album that I am working my way through, one song per week until the album is done. I was so happy that he won three more states last week. This is the last song on the album that he recorded here in Vermont many years ago.
5.) We Shall Overcome – Bernie Sanders and 30 VT Artists
6.) This Machine – Invisible Homes
7.) Symptom Of The Universe – Surf Sabbath
Last Friday I wandered down to The Skinny Pancake and saw Homes play a killer set. They closed with Machine. I then walked over to Juniper at Hotel Vermont and caught the High Breaks. They tossed in a couple of their Sabbath covers including Symptom. OK, so that was some of what happened last week. Surf Sabbath will be playing at Metal Monday on April 4th, so that is coming up this week. There is a ton of other great music happening this week. The sad thing is that I will miss all of it. Tomorrow night my brother Ken and I will head to Montreal to see Iron Maiden. If you will indulge me, I will start off this set with the title song from their new album and a song I will hear tomorrow night.
8.) Book Of Sours – Iron Maiden
9.) Angry Inch – Hedwig and the Angry Inch cast recording
10.) Ornan’s Song – The Dirty Blondes
11.) East.Jibab – REDadmiral
If I wasn’t at Maiden on April 1st I’d love to be at the Switchback Brewery seeing Admiral. If I wasn’t at Maiden on April 1st I’d love to be at Art’s Riot seeing the stage production of Hedwig, featuring Ornan on drums, and staying for the Dirty Blondes who are playing after. It’s going to be hard to miss the Blondes, but hey, Maiden. Another band that I really enjoy, the Wee Folkestra, are playing at the Skinny Pancake on April 1st. They are a collective of cool people, some of whom are in the following bands.
12.) Spit-n-Fire Blues (live at Nectar’s) – Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger
13.) This Is Our Good Night – Aya Inoue
14.) Super Sexy Science Party (live at Nectar’s) – Wave Of The Future
Samara Lark Brown from Wave is part of the Folkestra. So are Aya and Joe. I’d love to be at the show, if I wasn’t at Maiden. There is likely lots of other music happening in town on April 1st too, but let’s move on to April 2. This next band are most of Wave and they are playing at Drink.
15.) Art Of Vandalay – Sad Turtle
16.) Barstools – Abbie Morin
17.) Los Muertos – Eastern Mountain Time
Actually, Eastern are playing on April 1st too. They are over at Radio Bean. Abbie is playing at the Skinny Pancake on April 2. These next two artists are playing at Radio Bean on April 3rd.
18.) Day Of The Dead – Hana Zara
19.) Matter Of Time – Eric George
20.) Lithuania – Hana Zara
I just love the imagery of Hana’s songs. She and Eric are playing some shows together around the Midwest very soon. I was thrilled when I looked in the listings and saw that they are playing Sunday night at Radio Bean. I love when I get to listen to Hana. Well, I’m almost out of time, but I did want to give a shout out to Swale for their tremendous musicianship at the Pants show last Saturday. Let’s play a couple of their songs to take us out.
21.) Overcoat – Swale
22.) Popular Crowd – Swale
I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
