Heavy Plains, Aspero Siacos, And Blue Button At Finnegan’s November 6, 2015

I just got back from seeing some high energy rock and roll at Finnegan’s. I arrived just about 10 and instead of the stage being in the window, they had it set against the left hand wall. Wow, stage along the long wall. Nice Nectar’s flashback. Heavy Plains were set up and started soon after I grabbed a drink and found a nook to dance in. Their sound was heavy rock with a barely cheerier than Black Sabbath vibe mixed with some indie rock style, and the occasional sweet chorus. The sound was a little rough but they slugged through their set like champs. 

Aspero Siacos followed with some ’50’s infused punk rock. The opening song had a punk Sergio Leone feel to it. Several of the songs had a Secret Agent Man vibe and they all rocked hard. The third song in the set had a first album Clash feel with an easy to sing Da Da Da Da Yea Yea Yea Yea chant to sing along to. All of the music had the full room moving and some of them Pulp Fiction dancing. That set was nothing but fun from first moment to last.

Blue Button closed the night with a solid rocking set. The sound was a little off at the beginning, but they slugged their way through blistering rockers like Vestibule, F’ing Burning Bridges and We’re Closed. How It goes bopped nicely, but they finally got the sound locked in by the next one, a newish instrumental. They kicked out a fun My Bitter End then rocked hard on another newish one. They followed with Hit and were at full rocking steam at that point. Another new one followed, Tres Hombres? They played a searing Destroying Everything You See, then another I did not know, but really liked. The loud heavy fun punk rock continued with Jupiter then they closed with a rousing Bullshit. What a fun night.
