I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only WBKM.org. Aside from starting with the wrong song, it went pretty well. The ’80’s Ladies had the night off, so I got in a teeny bit early and lined up a few extra songs.

Mysterious Mystery – Persian Claws World Container – The Tragically Hip Small Town Movie – The Cush Gold In California – The Red Telephone Enter Ye The Mystery School – Jon Anderson Live – Official recording begins

Songs before: Brain Damage/Eclipse – Pink Floyd

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington. It was an eventful week in our country and solar system. Lots of good and bad things happened. The coolest thing was the eclipse of the moon. It really gives you a perspective of your place in the universe, and shows the complex beauty of this place we get to live in. Celestial events are one of the universal things that everyone can share in. Children are another. We can all relate to the idea of getting older and seeing children born and growing and see the magnificent cycle of life. We have a local artist who plays music for kids every Friday at the Radio Bean. She just released an album of those songs. This is one of my favorites and always reminds me of the magic of life. This is Puff The Magic Dragon by Linda Bassick on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Matter Of Time – Eric George 2.) Puff The Magic Dragon – Linda Bassick 3.) Rame – Francesca Blanchard 4.) Moonlight In Vermont – Willie Nelson

I just loved seeing the moon and wanted to play that one and be reminded of this summer when Neil Young had Lucas Nelson sing that one for us at the Essex Fairgrounds show. Francesca is releasing her new album Saturday in Stowe. If you like that song, check it out. Sorry about mixing up the first two song. Live radio, what can you do? If you like the Eric song, he’s releasing the album tomorrow at the North End Studio. Great song from Linda. I may get to more later. OK, here is the next song on No Need To Beg.

5.) Grass Is Always Greener – Phil Yates & The Affiliates 6.) The Night Syd Barret Died – Colin Nicholas Clary 7.) Boys With Guns – Chin Ho 8.) Film Called Life – Jer Coons

Jer has made a lot of cool music to add to our town. I wanted to play a Chin song and picked that one because of yet another school shooting in our country. As long as we have lots of legislators who identify as pro life and pro gun, we can expect these sorts of things to keep happening. One of these days maybe we will get tired of it and find ways to stop it from happening. I saw Colin play that song at Radio Bean a couple of weeks ago. He was so nice to send me a copy. I love that it mentions Radio Bean, Pearls, The Monkey House and Club Metronome. It also mentions a band. Keep that in mind for later. Great song from Phil Yates and the band. This next song has been running through my head this week, so I thought I’d share.

9.) ComeTooLate – Paper Castles 10.) It’s Happening – Anachronist 11.) Good Witch – Cricket Blue 12.) The Lion Sleeps Tonight – Linda Bassick

Another fun song from Linda. Sweet song from Cricket. I love that song from Anachronist! OK, sit back, relax, light up some incense, flip on the lava lamp. Let’s drift for a while.

13.) Armadillo – Swale 14.) Galactic Cannibalism – Wobblesauce 15.) The High Pass – Ozric Tentacles

Ozric are an English space rock band who played last Tuesday at Higher Ground. It was such a great show and I love how fast and fluid Ed is on the guitar. Wobble are from Boston and were the first band on. They were pretty fun and did a great version of that one. I’m sure they will be back. Hmmm, Swale. OK, let’s rock. This band was mentioned in the Colin Clary song.

16.) Round Sum – Cave Bees 17.) Be Aggressive – BE AGGRESSIVE 18.) Imaginary – Envy 19.) Comm To Space – ROUGH FRANCIS

It’s so stunningly cool that we found actual water on Mars. I had to play the Francis song to celebrate. Killer song from Envy. Be just played Metronome with the Queers and a couple other bands. I like the Cave Bees too. I still have dad’s car for a bit so Tuesday night I made the last minute decision to go see Ozric. It was raining so hard I could barely see. I took Patchen road to get there, since I couldn’t drive faster than 25mph anyway. The other day Andrew X Smith asked people to post rain songs, so I posted this one.

20.) Left One In The Rain – Alice Austin 21.) In The Rain – Plan B 22.) Despite The Rain – Starlight Conspiracy

Sweet song from Burlington’s ’90’s. I have so many fond memories of seeing Plan Be at Nectar’s, all those years ago. Killer Alice Austin song. So, have you ever gone to a show. Have you ever been in the know, or gone to a show with someone in the know? Have you ever had backstage passes?

23.) BS Passes – Black Rabbit 24.) You Are My Sunshine – Linda Bassick 25.) So They Say – The New Siberians 26.) Statistik – The Mountain Says No

Love that song from Mountain. Is it time for the new Siberians album yet? Another fun song from Linda. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we? Sayonara.

27.) Sayonara – Black Rabbit Outro
