Photos: VT @ SXSW!

Big Heavy World packed up shop for a few days mid March and hit the road to Austin, Texas for South By Southwest (SXSW). Heading down with us were six bands from Vermont; The Dupont Brothers, The Snaz, Get A Grip, Lowell Thompson, Waylon Speed and Zero Circle. Our mission? To melt faces at our Vermont Showcase at the Trophy Club.
While SXSW has events all over the city many shows are concentrated on and around Sixth Street. Most of the shows I saw were in other parts of the city including Robert Delong at IFC Fair Grounds, Mystery Skulls on the roof of Whole Foods and Twerps in the parking lot of Waterloo Records. So Friday night I made a point to check out Weedeater and King Parrot at The Dirty Dog on Sixth Street. The next night I found The Trophy Club about a block and a half away and met up with the bands. Zero Circle was up first at 8pm sharp stirring up the crowd with their lively brand of rock.
Lowell Thompson took the stage next with Waylon Speed backing him as The club began to fill up. The sounds of Vermont echoed in the street and back alleys of Sixth. Waylon Speed hammered down their rock n roll as the night surged on. Followed by smooth sounds of The Snaz, the youngest members of our showcase.
The Dupont Brothers reminded us that sometimes you just need to slow it down. Get A Grip finished out the night with their particular brand of punk/hardcore. My thoughts? I can't wait for next year. Check out more photos in the gallery.
