Radio Show 89 Thursday December 4, 2014 9-11PM Eastern US Time WBKM.ORG

Words by Tim Lewis.

I just got back from my local music radio show on internet only Wbkm Dot Org. I promised some punk rock and some classic rock, and think I delivered. I also threw in some experimental new stuff.

Song before: Orion – Jethro Tull

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. It’s a chilly night in Burlington. There are a few people waking out and down the beautifully lit Church st. Tonight let’s start with a recording from Nectar’s from the WBKM 7th birthday party a couple of weeks ago. This is the Seth Yacovone Bandplaying some Neil Young & Crazy Horse on WBKM and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) Cowgirl In The Sand – Real Old & Insane Donkey 2.) Little Wing – Bob Wagner and the Book “em Blues Band

Both of those were recorded at the WBKM 7th birthday party. There is an amazing amount of talent in those two bands! This next band played our birthday show too, but I don’t have a recording of it. This is two great guitarists from another live show.

3.) Destiny Waits – Bud & Budd ~ The Kind Buds 4.) These Summer Nights – Sarah Blacker 5.) Lean In – When Particles Collide

I love that song from the great duo from Maine. Sarah is from Boston but plays Burlington now and then too. Great guitar playing and singing from the Buds. I’ve just been handed a bulletin. This just in, punk rock is alive and well in Burlington Vermont!

6.) Hello World – Screaming Skulls 7.) Green Peaks Dark Valleys – Get A Grip 8.) Vermont City Living – Gorgon 9.) Be Aggressive – BE AGGRESSIVE 10.) Black Oil – Doom Service

Great song about the X-Files in the DS song. They’ve been playing lots of shows in town lately. Love the BA song. Gorgon always rock. Skulls is a new band with Justin Gonyea who is also in Doom. Grip are playing this weekend at Radio Bean. Friday has three can’t miss shows, so I’ll have to miss two. Dino Bravo VT and Crazyhearse are playing The Monkey House, Black Rabbit and Cave Bees are playing Manhattan Pizza and Pub, and ROUGH FRANCIS are celebrating their birthday with Friday and Saturday shows at Radio Bean. Friday they are playing with Varsity Drag, Blowtorch, Blue Button, Pours, and Get A Grip. Saturday they are playing with Ravi Shavi, Endless Jags, Swale, Black Rabbit and DJ Disco Phantom. I work until 9:30 on Friday and 11:30 on Saturday. I’m going to miss a lot of music, but should be able to catch some. OK, let’s go to the next song on Lipstick and Dynamite.

11.) The Invisibles – Black Rabbit 12.) Golden Goose – Cave Bees 13.) Righteous – Rough Francis 14.) Dead Or In Jail – Crazyhearse

All of those bands are great and playing pretty much at the same time. What’s a poor music fan to do? Oh, and Cave Bees have a guy named Creston Lea who is a great guitar player and guitar maker. Check out the video about him if you get a chance! OK, let’s keep rocking.

15.) Tic Toc – Doll Fight 16.) Imaginary – Envy 17.) Weapons Factory – The Wards 18.) Burn – The Dirty Blondes

The Blondes have been rocking town for quite a while. The Wards rocked us in the ’80;s, Envy in the ’90’s and Doll in the 00’s. Love all those songs. I miss Doll Fight. Christine moved on to Boston, I think Kelly formed Gorgon, and Jane Boxall Percussion is doing a million things, like playing with Black Rabbit, Vedora, and something new. On the walk down I noticed Orion in the sky for the first time. Winter is here. Seeing the hunter always makes me think of this song.

19.) Stylus Of Id – Somah 20.) Summer’s Gone – The Cush 21.) Words – Slingshot Dakota 22.) Next Summer Out On The Ice – Endless Jags

I love the new Jags album Sell The Banquet. I’ll likely be working when they are playing. Love Slingshot! Nice video out for The Cush song. I just got this next song before heading down to do the show. This is a piece by Raph Worrick and Jane Boxall, collectively known as Bad Smell.

23.) AV6 (?) – Bad Smell 24.) The Alchemist – Pours 25.) Einstein-Rosen Bridge – Jeremy Gilchrist

Very cool lyrics on the Jeremy song. It’s kind of fun playing some new music and as soon as I heard it, I though it would mix nicely into Pours. OK, let’s go back to the birthday party show for some more Seth.

26.) Down By The River -> Like A Hurricane – Real Old & Insane Donkey

I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
