intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I love to go to the clubs to see live music and this is a song I’ve been dancing to for ages. Today, I get to play it for you. This is Everyone Likes To by Swale on Wbkm, and this is Burlington’s Kind Of Music.

1.) Everyone Likes To – Swale 2.) We’re Closed! – Blue Button 3.) Never Enough – Zola Turn

Another great song from Zola and the third song on Ninja Jane. I’ve always love the dancing maybe line. That angst of asking is it ever enough reminded me of the frustration Jason Cooley expressed in the song We’re Closed! There is also a great line about trying to get in, in the Swale song. Most of us work for a living, and there are good and bad parts of that. This next set is dedicated to everyone who dreams of not working, but goes to work anyway.

4.) Help Wanted – Wide Wail 5.) I Need A Raise – Cave Bees 6.) Rejected – Black Rabbit 7.) I Quit – Blotto

Blotto are from Albany and played a ton of fun songs. That is one of those songs that everyone understands. I loved seeing them at Hunts, a long time ago. The line about wanting to quit in the Rabbit song inspired the set, then it made me think of Blotto. Once that was set, the Cave Bees song was a natural, especially with Rebekah Whitehurst;s killer performance with Blue Button at The Monkey House last week. Pooloop and Dino Bravo VT also rocked hard that night. I needed one more and asked on Facebook. Eric Olsen suggested the WW, which was perfect. OK, it’s a beautiful summer in Vermont, but that also means mosquitoes.

8.) Giant Mosquitoes – Cold Sweat 9.) Summertime – Peg Tassey MUSIC and the Velvet Ovum Band 10.) Plastic Revolution – Doll Fight 11.) Hangover Dreaming – Gorgon 12.) Mad Mary Jones – THE VACANT LOTS

The Vacant Lots used to play in town all the time, but now they have put out the Departure album this Tuesday, and are touring with Brian Jonestown Massacre and playing in London and Glasgow. I got this yesterday and had to play it today. Gorgon will play the Monkey House next week and I have to get out to see them. I love that Doll Fight song. It is summer and the Peg song describes it beautifully. Here’s another fun song from Burlington’s past.

13.) Rudy’s Kookie – The Spring Heeled Jacks something happened and a wail of feedback happened. I dumped the song and went into 14.) 5-30 – Hover 15.) Rudy’s Kookie – The Spring Heeled Jacks (played fine) 16.) Sound Drivers – Endless Jags 17.) Paint This City – The Vacant Lots

I listened to their new album this morning and that one jumped at me. Another great song from the Jags. Sorry about the feedback. I had to swap the Jacks and Hover. I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
