Marina Evans came by to play some of her original songs live for Rocket Shop last Wednesday evening. The bubbly singer-songwriter from Rockport, Massachusetts sports a passionate spunk and distinctive voice, which resembles that of a younger Anaïs Mitchell. She came to Burlington for a few days to play at Radio Bean on Tuesday and The Skinny Pancake on Thursday. She travels back and forth from New England to Europe, playing gigs and promoting her recent album, ‘Unbound,’ which was recorded in Florence after reaching her goal in a Kickstarter campaign. She fell in love with Italy after studying abroad there in her college years at Columbia University. Marina’s love for music and singing started as she grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Anita O’Day. She grew to be a fan of classic and folk rock, such as Bob Dylan, The Byrds, and Leonard Cohen. She taught herself to play guitar, saying that the independent aspect of accompanying herself as she sang was one of the main reasons she started playing the guitar. She is currently working on new material and filling up her schedule with gigs including stops in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and London. www.marinaevansmusic.com
