I just got back from my local music radio show, number 43, on internet only WBKM. I had to work all day, then got out at 7 with only a rough sketch of some of the show. I got into the studio and started to build it.

intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds Of Burlington. I’ve been on a tear lately and ended the year seeing a ton of great music. I saw Milton Busker play a beautiful set at Radio Bean on Friday. I saw a ton of bands on Saturday at The Monkey House‘s 7th birthday party, like Black Rabbit and Dino Bravo VT (and spaced all of the others), on Sunday I saw the last Dark Side Of The Mountain show and Matthew Bryan Hagen was great and Grace Potter sang Great Gig In The Sky and Kat Wright sang most of side two of Dark Side Of The Moon. I stayed in Monday and on Tuesday caught Hana Zara at Radio Bean then went to The Monkey Hose to see Maryse Smith, Nyko, and ended 2013 with a killer set from Vedora. Tonight I will start with a song Hana played at the Bean. It’s a very appropriate song for this time of year on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s kind of music.

1.) The New One – Hana Zara 2. Happy New Year – Ninja Custodian 3.) Big Slowdown – Great Western

I’ve only caught GW a couple of times but loved then every time I did. I have to get out to see them in 2014. I’m just getting to know their new album and wanted to get that one on the air. I love Ninja and have been waiting months to play that one. Hana is super talented and her new songs are really good. I can’t wait to hear the album about Amanda in full. At her current writing pace, that should be very soon. Well, Vedora was the last band I saw in 2013, and they played a killer version of this one.

4.) Promises – Vedora 5.) Captain 20 – Barbacoa 6.) Warm Chills – Persian Claws 7.) Horse – Envy

I just love that song by Envy and have been jumping around the studio like a crazy man with the volume cranked. The Claws are always fun and basically Barbaco with La Dee singing. I’ve had a great time whenever I’ve seen them. Hmmm, Vedora. OK, now it’s time for the second to last song on To A Star In The Yard.

8.) Let’s Make Mercy – Alice Austin 9.) Black Horse Acre – The Lonestar Chain 10.) Lights Of Montreal – Lobot 11.) Stylus Of Id – Somah

I loved seeing Somah and love the song about seeing Orion at this time of year. I love to sing I don’t mind the cold, as it’s 10 degrees below zero and snowing in Burlington. It seems like Lobot come back and play a reunion show every year. Is it time yet??? That was a great song from Lonestar. The next two bands are all about 2014. The second is someone I’m hoping will play some shows, with new songs or old, sometime this year. The first are putting the finishing touches on their new album. It will be ready soon!

12.) Home Away From Home – Elephants of Scotland 13.) Poem For Torin/Ethan’s Stoned – Peg Tassey MUSIC

I saw Peg at the Precipice this year and hope she puts something together soon. Well, I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our town. Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
