I just got back from radio show 20 on WBKM.ORG.  I headed downtown early and caught a few songs by Alpha Rev, playing in Battery Park.  Daniel Bolles was right.  They sounded a lot like a more country rock Coldplay.  It’s Matthew Hastings birthday, and I forgot to toss in a Vedora song.  I hope this makes it up to him.

Songs before: Jump Back, Promises, In the Pines – Vedora

Intro

From our small city to the great big world, these are the Sounds of Burlington.  I caught a few songs by Alpha Rev in Battery Park, and it’s a lovely day, it’s full of sun, people are out and about.  Here is a song recorded at Nectar’s by Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger on WBKM, and this is Burlington’s Kind of Music.

1.) Many A Girl – Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger (live at Nectar’s)

2.) Wake Me When It’s Over – Longwave

3.) Be Aggressive – Be Aggressive

I saw Be Aggressive a couple of weeks ago, then the next show I had, I played the other three bands on the bill, so I wanted to make it up to them.  The song has been in my head a lot lately.  They are playing Friday in White River Junction.  Longwave are a great band from New York City who have come to town a few times and rocked us hard.  Joe and the Rangers are so much fun live.  Tonight, a man who helps almost every other Burlington musician is releasing his own music.

4.) Sweetheart – Ryan Power

5.) See Me On My Way – Superhuman Happiness

6.) Ev-Er-y Day – The Skamaphrodites

7.) Emily – The Grift

I just realized a guy I’ve worked with for a while, Jeff Vallone, is in a bunch of local bands.  One is the Grift and Emily is a pretty sweet song.  The Skamaphrodites are getting back together for a few shows, including the Precipice.  A whole sampler of music, from bands who are playing the festival, was just released, so I’m delighted to play some of it.  Superhuman was from that too, and that song just makes me feel happy.  Too much music is coming to town at the same time.  Tonight is the High Breaks at Nectar’s and Ryan at Signal Kitchen (High Breaks are going on later and so is Ryan, so I got groceries and went home, with shows Friday and Saturday, and those being my Monday and Tuesday…if HB had been on at 10:15, I would have caught a few songs), Saturday is Hover and Guppy Boy at Monkey House, but I have to see all the bands at the Max Krauss house party.  Friday is Joe and the Rangers at Vt Pub and, at the same time, Sarah Emily Blacker at Radio Bean.  She has a new EP out, but here’s an older song.

8.) I Should Speak – Sarah Blacker

9.) Good Thing – Maryse Smith

10.) Guitar – Michael Chorney and Hollar General

11.) Solitude – Alpenglow

I’ve been meaning to check out Alpenglow.  I’ve heard good things, but until the Precipice sampler, I had missed them.  Wow, nice song.  Speaking of which, Guitar sounds like a cool breeze running through your mind.  I’ve caught Maryse a couple of times and she has a great voice.  (I missed mentioning that she was likely playing at the same time as my show, opening for Ryan Power).  It’s nice to have a song of hers to play.  Hmmm Sarah Blacker.  Tomorrow.  Hey, there’s a cool band coming to town on Sunday at Signal Kitchen.

12.) A Charm/A Blade – Phosphorescent

13.) Many A Girl (Reprise) – Joe Adler and the Rangers of Danger

Well that does it for me.  I hope you enjoyed checking out the music of our….wait, did I forget something?  Right, the next song on the Cush album.

14.) Reprise – The Cush
