Straight outta Rutland, Vermont, Split Tongue Crow cruised by the Big Heavy studio last night to play on Taz Michael's Twilight Blues show on 105.9 FM The Radiator. This folksy, Americana, mountain music group wooed us with their dreamy tunes, earnest Vermont songwriting, and genuinely coordinated talent. Last night, Cara, Eoin and Jeremy's three part harmonies wrapped the Radiator studio in a cozy blanket of 'hill and valley folk'.
Split Tongue Crow practices rigorous self-acceptance; so far it's been working out real well. With Eoin and Dave on acoustic guitar, Jeremy on bass, Matt on percussion and Cara on vocals, each member makes simple contributions to their gentle yet powerful group sound. No one overpowers so that everyone shines. Last night, we heard songs off Split Tongue Crow's self-titled album including "Mother's Okay" as well as newer tunes, "Cheyenne" and "Spy vs. Spy." Songwriting is a group-collaboration, but Eoin describes it as "picking songs out of the sky, they're just floating around up there, and we have to pick 'em and then play 'em."
The band's six song acoustic set was over far too soon, but you can catch Split Tongue Crow on February 25th, at 215 Main on the Bridge in Middlebury, VT, at 9 P.M. For more information on the band, bios, music, and photos, head to their page at www.reverbnation.com/splittonguecrow.
