Dan Bolles Stops by Big Heavy
Words by Justin Landau. I was lucky enough to sit down quickly this past Wednesday at Big Heavy World and talk to Dan Bolles, the music editor for Seven Days, and organizer of the Big Heavy World benefit show 'Burlington Bands 101' this Friday at Nectar's. When asked how he picked the bands for the benefit Dan said: "I tried to pick as many bands from the Seven Days' 'Whats Good' guide, and after that expand from the magazine and see what else was out there. Along with this, all the bands performing are personal favorites of mine."
In regard to his role at Seven Days as music editor, "I'm not a cultivator of music. My goal is to try and keep people informed about all the music going on in the area. After that, the critical element is involved, where I take in everything I've seen and heard, and filter it out into what I think people would like."
On His favorite venue in Burlington: "Each venue has its own charm. Higher Ground is great because they can bring in the big name artists that most places around here can't. Radio Bean is great, because you can walk in there any night and hear something great, or something horrendous. Nectar's and Metronome are great because they host tons of diverse, local bands. For the best listening experience, I like the acoustic lounge at Parima, where people go to truly listen to and appreciate music without all the background noise. The Monkey House lately has been great as well, hosting tons of underground great music."
Big Heavy World would like to thank Dan and Seven Days once again for producing 'Burlington Bands 101'!
