Chittenden County Historical Society Honors Big Heavy World
During the annual meeting of the Chittenden County Historical Society on Sunday July 20, the Vermont Music Library & Shop was honored with the 2008 Special Recognition Award. The VMLS, part of the Big Heavy World Foundation, has spent the last decade compiling recordings by Vermont-based musicians in order to preserve the state’s culture in a public listening library. With the help of a dedicated volunteer staff and recent funding, the VMLS has begun the digitizing and archiving the 3,000-plus records held in its library. The award, accepted by BHW Executive Director James Lockridge, acknowledges the VMLS’s leading efforts in “collecting, preserving and digitizing the cultural legacy of Vermont music.”
